Hi there too fellow Singaporeans!! 🙂 Hmm, generally driving around in NZ is very safe (not as many cars like in SG, although this is more applicable for the outskirts of NZ). But still, be very careful! There are indeed a lot of winding roads though, especially in the south!

For campervan, generally you’re free to camp for free everywhere (but must be 2km away from the city or unless there are any signs that says no camping). Yeah, 10-12 days quite rushed if you want to cover the whole of NZ.

For us we had about a month, spent 2 weeks each in the North and South island. I would recommend more of south NZ though, it’s really scenic in south NZ! But since you girls only have a few must gos, then it should be enough time to cover all the places that you’re keen to go!

Also, if you’re into extreme sports, you can do the sky dive and bungee in Queensland! Amazing views when you’re high up there in the sky!

You’re gonna love NZ! We definitely loved that beautiful country and it was our first long trip together too! 🙂 Let us know if you need any more info!

A fellow Singaporean!! (although this post was from a couple years ago?) Im intending to head to NZ this mid March, doing a 10-12 days road trip in a campervan too. Predominantly we want to tour south island and only head to north for hobbiton and waitamo caves HOWEVER, I do know 10-12 days is pretty unrealistic so we are feeling conflicted too. Anyway we are a pair of 2 girls so I am kinda worried, firstly, we are not experienced van drivers, we both just have the normal class 3 license. I’m worried about the completely different kind of roads in nz and Singapore. Worried abt the terrain, winding roads and roads that might be difficult for a campervan. If you could give me some advice and tips to drive in NZ it will be the mostttt appreciated.. Thanks!!!!

Mine was in 2009 grad trip, had an Apollo 6 berther and at one point had 9 people travelling in it! Highlights were avoiding dead kangaroos driving 100k/h at night, driving almost 1000km in a day, memorizing an entire CD on repeat, playing bridge while someone drives, getting pissed drunk on goon and keeping the entire caravan park awake, stopped for breathalyser at 12 NOON… and bringing out the foldable chairs sipping wine watching the stars at night. Also fun: Parallel parking in a city and totally scratching another car driving out and damaging the vehicle ($1000 ouch)
Do keep writing, these stories bring back many memories and am loving it!
